The Royal Cornwall Hospital is a large acute hospital which caters for the whole of the Cornwall area. It is attached to the University of Exeter Medical School and provides teaching to medical and nursing students.
Pharmacy Department Information
The Royal Cornwall hospital pharmacy department is a forward thinking and friendly team with full deployment of electronic prescribing and administration in the inpatient and outpatient setting and fully automated dispensing. We provide an innovative clinical pharmacy service, combining technology and clinical pharmacy expertise. We are a recognised national leader for innovation in fields such as antimicrobial resistance and the adoption of Scan4Safety standards.

Local Training Programme Information
The department has plenty of pre-registration tutors who are open to your learning needs and will fit any special interests into your training programme. A well-structured and thorough training programme is provided, which fully supports you to develop your skills. There will be opportunities to attend talks from specialist pharmacists and other health-care professionals, covering specialties such as cardiology, surgery, oncology, renal, nutrition and paediatrics.
We are able to offer three hospital placements and a fourth trainee will split their year between hospital and community. Boots Pharmacy on Pydar Street offers a wide range of extended services and works closely with the local GP Practice and community hospital. You will have a structured training plan to maximise your experience in both hospital and community practice.
We also have links with our GP services, and are able to offer 4 split placements at Bosvena Health, Bodmin Veor Surgery, Cambourne, St Austell Healthcare, St Austell, and Three Spires Medical Practice, Truro.
The department also offers 2 split placements with our local Mental Health and Adult Community Trust
On qualification, we welcome our pre-registration trainees to apply to join our Foundation Pharmacists Development Programme. This is a collaborative programme offering comprehensive experience within the acute Trust and within some of our neighbouring organisations such as Mental Health. You would also have the opportunity to complete the Bath, Queens or Keele Clinical Diploma.
The hospital is located on the outskirts of Truro, within walking distance of the City. Beaches are within 7 miles and other local towns such as Falmouth, Helston and Newquay are within easy reach.
There are local bus and train services from Truro and the main line to Paddington. There is an airport in Newquay, providing links to some of the major cities.

Social & Recreational
Our pharmacy team is very friendly and outgoing and numerous social activities are organised throughout the year. Cornwall is well known for its coastline, water sports, rock climbing, walks and beautiful scenery. There is a leisure centre within walking distance from the hospital, offering many facilities including a swimming pool and gym.
