The hospital includes a busy emergency department, admissions units, medical and surgical wards, stroke unit, intensive care unit, high care unit, day case unit, private unit, midwife-led maternity unit, and childrens services. It is a Cancer Unit of the Avon, Somerset and Wiltshire Cancer Network for the provision of services for patients with breast, colo-rectal, urological, upper gastro-intestinal, lung and haematological malignancies.  In addition there is a separate mental health unit on site run by Avon Wiltshire Partnership Trust.

The hospital offers staff car parking, an on-site nursery, shop, gym, subsidised restaurant and cash point facilities.

Pharmacy Department Information

The Pharmacy at Weston is in two locations - the main dispensary situated on the ground floor and a satellite chemotherapy unit, producing chemotherapy for day patients, on the first floor. The outpatient dispensing service has been outsourced to Lloyds Pharmacy who have premises on site next to the main hospital dispensary. This allows the inpatient pharmacy department to concentrate on medicines reconciliation at admission, discharge services and clinical pharmacy services in addition to medicine supply services to all wards and departments within the hospital.

There are 24 members of staff, comprising of 9 pharmacists, 8 technicians (including those with accredited checking and medicines management qualifications), 5 pharmacy assistants, a clerical officer and a student technician.

Local Training Programme Information

We are committed to providing our pre-registration trainees with the knowledge, experience and support necessary for the successful completion of the pre-registration year. In addition to the regional training courses, we have a structured programme to cover supply, clinical, ward services and professional skills and is flexible and tailored to the student. The year also includes time gaining experience at the Bristol Royal Infirmary which will be merged with WAHT from April 2020.  The present pre-registration programme includes several weeks at Bristol in Pharmacy Production, QC, Medicines Information and Paediatrics. Some time is also scheduled in mental health and in community practice to gain additional experience in these areas of pharmacy.
